Statement of Beliefs
St. John's is a member of the
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod
- We believe that the Holy Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and the only source and norm for Christian doctrine and practice.
- We believe that there is only one true God, who has revealed Himself in Three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe that, by His innocent suffering and death on the cross in our place, Jesus Christ made full atonement for our sins.
- We believe that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter morning, later ascended into heaven where He now lives and reigns to all eternity.
- We believe that Jesus will return on the last day to judge the living and the dead and take all believers in Him to eternal life and glory.
- We believe that God comes to us in His Church through chosen means of grace which are the Word of God (The Holy Scriptures) and the Sacraments of Baptism and The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion), and that through these means of grace He conveys to us His forgiveness.
- We believe that we are saved only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, which is a free gift of The Holy Spirit to us. We believe that Holy Baptism brings us into God's Kingdom and makes us members of the Body of Christ as we receive the Holy Spirit, who works faith in our hearts.
- We believe that the Sacrament of Holy Communion is the true body and blood of Christ which is received with the bread and the wine (Real Presence). It is not a Symbolic eating and drinking. We believe that those who receive this Sacrament actually eat and drink the body and blood of our Lord and Savior shed for us on the cross. We celebrate "close" communion and ask only those who are members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, or, are members of a church with which we are in Altar and Pulpit fellowship with would participate in the Sacrament.

Stewardship: 1 Peter 1:3-9: Peter lived with confidence because he was an eyewitness to the risen Lord and the rest of his life was spent in praising God in words and actions. We are not eyewitnesses to the risen Savior but by God’s grace we believe the message of God’s eyewitnesses and also spend our lives praising God with our words and actions. Spending our lives and resources like that is great Christian stewardship.
Life Quote: "The cross proclaims to us that suffering is not a sign of God’s absence or disfavor toward us. Jesus Christ did not turn His back on suffering nor did He walk away from those suffering. He suffered for us on the cross and He suffers with us in all that life brings. He does not abandon us to suffer alone." Rev. Dr. Eugene Boe, Academic Dean, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Lutheran Brethren Seminary. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE

CAMP MINNEBOJI – June 22-28, 2008! “Don’t Forget His Lyrics” is the theme of Camp Minneboji this summer (June 22-28). God’s people have been remembering the great deeds of God through Psalms, hymns, and songs for centuries. Our Bible studies and other aspects of camp will be built on this theme, as the campers will especially be led by way of the Psalms to remember what God has done for them through Jesus. Camp Minneboji is for those who are currently in grades 4 through 9. The camp, located at Camp Okoboji in northwest Iowa, features Bible study, mission presentations, crafts, music time, sports and recreation. Cost is $225 for 4th-8th graders and $255 for 9th graders. Camp registration booklets will be mailed directly to last year’s campers and in bulk to the congregations by April 1. For more information, check out the camp’s Website: www.minneboji.com, or contact the Camp Dean, Rev. Scott Sailer (scottsailer@aol.com, 605/332-3401).
Large Print Bulletins are available – Let pastor know if you wanted one and they ran out.
Life Quote for Easter: "We can face the end of life with confidence because Jesus Christ has defeated the enemy of death. For the believer in Christ, the Savior of the world, it is death with a difference. The cross promises what no science or medicine can: immortality . . . (2 Timothy 1:10) . . . Through the cross and Christ’s resurrection comes new life, eternal life, life with Christ without end." Rev. Dr. Eugene Boe, Academic Dean, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Lutheran Brethren Seminary. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life / www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE
Stewardship for Easter: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11: St. Paul witnessed to the truth that the risen Jesus was the power in his life and therefore he was renewed to be a good steward of the Gospel. We believers in Christ and His resurrection are also moved to be good stewards, not just of our money, time and talents, but also with our sharing of the Gospel of salvation.

Good Friday Devotion, Vom Gotslestern. Andreas Musculus.

A Devotion for Good Friday.
“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. Issues, Etc. Gone?!

I am greatly saddened.
On Tuesday of Holy Week, the
Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod canceled the radio program
Issues, Etc. on its Radio Station
KFUO AM. This program was a lifeline of Lutheran Theology to many people all over the globe. Host
Pastor Todd Wilken and
Producer Jeff Schwarz were dismissed and the program ended without notice. I have struggled with the reasons that may have prompted this decision and will not speculate here. This is a great loss to the whole Communion of Saints.
(see http://www.bookofconcord.org/largecatechism/4_creed.html Article III, paragraph 47ff)
Pastor Watt.
If you care to sign a petition in protest of this decision and ask for the return of
Issues, Etc. to the air please visit

Stewardship this Week: Philippians 2:5-11: Jesus, the almighty and eternal Son of God, emptied Himself and took on the form of a servant to do for us what we could never do for ourselves. What an encouragement for us to live as God’s servants who do the right things for the right reasons and make this world a better place because we are here.

Stewardship Today Romans 8:1-11: Most people who have been released from prison or any other kind of bondage come out with the desire to live the rest of their lives to the full. Jesus has rescued us from the horrible bondage of sin, death and the devil so that we may no longer live for ourselves but rather for Him who died for us and rose again. That’s at the heart of Christian stewardship.
